Google-News-Is-Testing-The-Display-Of-Author-Names-In-Article-Snippets

Google has started to test out a new update for their portal – Google News. This new update will display the author name below the publication name in the article card snippet interface. This move is aimed at acknowledging and crediting content creators that signifies a potential shift in how online news platforms approach author attribution.

Google’s exploration of author attribution isn’t a sudden development. Earlier, they have tested it for Google Discover stories and Top Stories. Now they have started to test it out on the articles that are listed on Google News (more specifically article’s listed at news.google.com). Checkout the screenshot below:

This shift toward recognizing authors is not only a positive step for content creators but also an interesting move in the ever-evolving landscape of online news consumption.

Shalom Goodman shared an example of this on X, he wrote, “This is the first time I’ve seen authors within Google News. It could be Google’s way of trying to gain authority for authors.”
